Handling Reviews Involving Assault by another guest: Hostelworld's Protocol and Expectations
When a review or complaint submitted to our site mentions any form of assault by another guest, the property is expected to investigate immediately and collaborate fully with local authorities.
Reviews that mention assault involving another guest are not initially published, in adherence to our guidelines. The property is promptly contacted to request additional information regarding the alleged assault.
Hostels are required to have a protocol in place to address reports of assault by another guest. This protocol must include:
- Immediate notification to Hostelworld when a guest reports an assault to the property
- Sensitive treatment of the alleged victim
- Offering the alleged victim the option to contact their national consulate if they do not wish to speak to local authorities
- Maintaining a detailed log of the incident for future reference
We also recommend that the property maintains a detailed log of the incident, which can be referenced if needed in the future.
We reserve the right to permanently remove a review that does not comply with our review guidelines. However, we are committed to investigating all reported cases of assault.
If a hostel fails to take appropriate steps or communicate promptly with Hostelworld regarding any alleged assault involving a Hostelworld guest, we reserve the right to terminate the hostel’s contract.
